… And by doing so showed the entire world how stupid it is to vilify a firearms accessory and create a situation where a law abiding citizen is now a criminal simply for touching it.
On ‘Meet The Press’ today, David Gregory held up a 30 round AR15 magazine. By doing so he may have been “in possession” of a banned firearm accessory as per D.C. law, and he is now a criminal.
The law reads like this:
No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. A ‘large capacity ammunition feeding device’ means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition – D.C. code states.
Violating the law brings a penalty of a $1,000 fine or imprisonment for up to a year.
Its going to be very interesting to see how all of this plays out. I am sure that the DC Police are not really gonna give a hill of beans about it, but they should. I dont care if he is a well contected member of the liberal media. If he commited a crime, and violated the same DC gun laws that he is now so vehemently pushing for nation wide. Anything less than throwing the book at him is a slap in the face to this entire conversation, and would show a real lack of integrity by law enforcement. Throw him in jail for a year and fine him $1,ooo. Period. End of discussion. IMO, That photo above is all the evidence you need (although, when he held it up he admited to the crime and said “This is a 30 round magazine”)…. and if that does not constitute possession then I dont know what does. Then use every resource that law enforcement has available to figure out where that magazine came from, who smuggled it into D.C., who gave it to David Gregory, and who was in possession of it before and after the show. Everyone involved in this needs to be made an example of.

The word is “vehemently” not “viamintly”. Where did you go to school? And yes, he should be charged with possession of that illegal magazine.
Actually, he should be charged with impersonating a journalist!

When are the members of the media going remember how to report the news not make the news? Hang all those who claim to be members of the third estate!

It would seem that since he is so vehemently espousing enforcing the law that prohibits possession, sale, other transfer of such an item that he should be subjected to the maximum penalty of that law. Failure to do so makes a mockery of the law and the basic principle that we are ALL EQUAL in the eyes of the law – not that someone in the media or in some government position is exempt from it. To have done what he did certainly show his lack of intelligence (which most-not all, but certainly most-media types would have you believe they have and the rest of us don’t) or his belief that he is above the law which is not so. That said, he committed the crime, the evidence is publicly available and he should be held accountable for his actions to the maximum allowable penalty. Anything less should make the law invalid and therefore it should be removed from the records.
